Relative Susceptibility to Arsenic in Successive Instars of the Silkworm
نویسنده
چکیده
The susceptibility of the silkworm to arsenic decreases during its larval development. Relative susceptibility may be expressed numerically as a ratio of areas under dosage-effect curves.

Relative Susceptibility to Arsenic in Successive Instars of the Silkworm.*
The susceptibility t of mammals to poisons at successive intervals during their postembryonic development has been studied in several cases. For example, Schwartze (6) showed that the susceptibility of white rats to strychnine increases from birth to the time of emergence from the "crawling stage", and then decreases up to the time of maturity. The most recent work is that of Takahashi (7), who...
متن کاملSusceptibility of three Eco-races of tropical Tasar silkworm to Antheraea mylitta cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (AmCPV)
Pathogenic infection in tasar silkworm, Antheraea mylitta Drury. is common and there is a breed specific response regarding tolerance. Observations reveal the possibility of differential response by haemocytes to microbial infection in different breeds. Hence, the susceptibility of three eco-races of tasar silkworm viz. Daba, Sarihan and Raily to Antheraea mylitta Cytoplasmic Polyhedrosis Virus...
متن کاملInstar Susceptibility of Simulium vittatum (Diptera: Simuliidae) to the Entomogenous Nematode Neoaplectana carpocapsae.
Laboratory bioassays showed that the susceptibility of Simulium vittatum to Neoaplectana carpocapsae increased with successive larval instars. First, second, and third instar larvae were resistant to infection, while seventh instars were highly susceptible. Significant differences in intra-instar susceptibility were also evident, as mortality ranged from 58% for the smallest seventh instar larv...
متن کاملTransmission Dynamics of a Virus in a Stage-structured Insect Population1
Despite the blossoming interest in host-microparasite epidemiology, and in use of viruses in the biological control of insect pests, few empirical studies have attempted to quantify transmission and mortality rates under field conditions. We report a laboratory and field study in which the transmission parameter (v) and mortality rate (Ux) due to nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) are measured in...
